Broad stakeholder participation helps improve the design of project models, encourages stakeholders to add resources to the projects, and builds support for program expansion, policy improvement, and practice change. Partnerships with providers and provider associations are crucial to obtaining provider acceptance and support. The creation of a state public/private partnership that explicitly includes pediatric provider leadership and families will improve the quality of care delivered in primary care settings. Active participation of state agencies, including Maternal and Child Health bureaus, children’s mental health departments and lead agencies for Early Intervention/Part C, can support the spread of structured screening and improve linkages between primary health care providers and other child and family service providers and community resources, assuring young children and their families receive needed services.
